Khaled Walid Awad, FACI, es el Presidente del Consejo y Socio Fundador de ACTS, una empresa de consultoría geotécnica y material con sede en Beirut, Líbano, y operando en Qatar, Saudi Arabia y algunos otros países del Medio Oriente.
Como miembro activo de ACI, funge en el Comité de Programas de Certificación, el Comité Internacional de Asesoría, el Comité de Presidentes del Comité de Consejos de ACI, y en el Sub-comité Internacional de Certificación, del cual fue el Presidente anterior. Awad es Fideicomisario de la Fundación ACI. Es miembro de los Comités 130 de ACI, Sustentabilidad del Concreto, y C630, Certificación de Inspectores de Construcción; y de los Sub-comités 130-E de ACI, Diseño/Especificaciones/Códigos/Regulaciones; 130-F, Temas Sociales; 130-G, Certificación/Educación; y C601-E, Asesor de Sustentabilidad de la Construcción de Concreto.
Awad fué el Presidente anterior del Comité de Asesoría Financiera y anteriormente fungió como miembro del Consejo Directivo de ACI. Recibió el Premio Henry L. Kennedy de ACI y el Premio de Actividades del Capítulo de ACI en el año 2007, y el Premio de Certificación ACI en 2011.
Es el fundador de Grenea, una sociedad de inversión que fomenta y ofrece asistencia Técnica a los eco-desarrollos de todo el mundo. Antes de constituir la empresa Grenea, había sido el Director Fundador de Desarrollo Inmobiliario de la Iniciativa Masdar en Abu Dhabi. Masdar es una iniciativa multifacética que promueve el desarrollo, comercialización y la implementación de tecnologías y soluciones de energía renovables y alternativas. Supervisó el desarrollo de la Ciudad Masdar libre de emisiones, el primero desarrollo del mundo con tendencia a convertirse en neutra en carbono.
Awad se desempeñó en bienes raíces y en la industria de la construcción en el Golfo Arabe durante más de 30 años. Fue el Fundador y Director General de varias compañías de construcción y de bienes raíces, tratando con el aspecto de información tecnológica y la cadena de abasto de la industria, así como el desarrollo de proyectos de gran escala.
Obtuvo su Licenciatura en Ingeniería Civil de la Universidad Americana, Beirut, Líbano y si Maestría en Administración de Negocios de la Universidad Libanesa, Beirut, Líbano. Awad también es miembro de la Sociedad Americana de Ingenieros Civiles (ASCE) y ASTM International, y Colega del Instituto de Tecnología de Concreto del Reino Unido.

Khaled W. Awad has been elected to serve as president of The American Concrete Institute (ACI) for 2017-2018
Khaled Walid Awad, FACI, is the Chairman and Founder of ACTS, a material and geotechnical consulting firm based in Beirut, Lebanon, and operating in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and several other countries of the Middle East.
An active member of ACI, he serves on Certification Programs Committee, International Advisory Committee, ACI Board Committee Chairs Committee, and the International Certification Subcommittee, of which he is a past Chair. Awad is a Trustee of the ACI Foundation. He is a member of ACI Committees 130, Sustainability of Concrete, and C630, Construction Inspector Certification; and ACI Subcommittees 130-E, Design/Specifications/Codes/Regulations; 130-F, Social Issues; 130-G, Education/Certification; and C601-E, Concrete Construction Sustainability Assessor.
Awad is the past Chair of the Financial Advisory Committee and previously served as a member of the ACI Board of Direction. He received the ACI Henry L. Kennedy Award and the ACI Chapter Activities Award in 2007, and the ACI Certification Award in 2011.
He is the founder of Grenea, an investment firm advancing and providing technical assistance to eco-developments around the world. Prior to establishing Grenea, he was the founding Director of Property Development at the Masdar Initiative in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Masdar is a multifaceted initiative advancing the development, commercialization, and deployment of renewable and alternative energy technologies and solutions. He oversaw the development of emission-free Masdar City, the world’s first development aiming to become carbon-neutral.
Awad worked in the real estate and construction industry in the Arabian Gulf for more than 30 years. He was the Founder and CEO of various construction and real estate companies, dealing with the supply chain and information technology side of the industry, as well as the development of large-scale projects.
He received his BE in civil engineering from the American University, Beirut, Lebanon, and his MA in business administration from the Lebanese University, Beirut, Lebanon. Awad is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and ASTM International, and a Fellow of the UK Institute of Concrete Technology.
