The modernization of Port of Guaymas: Increase of commercial interchange between Mexico and United States, a common benefit.
The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, held a business meeting with railroad representatives from Union Pacific and Ferromex this past May 18th. The governor stated: “Each one of the works that conform the modernization of Port of Guaymas will benefit the commercial interchange between Mexico and Unites States, as the Sonoran port will be in conditions to discharge the ship traffic with goods being transported to different cities, this will give privilege the regional and state economic development. The Railroad companies will be in conditions as well to transport with improved times”.
In addition, the governor mentioned that part of this project contemplates the modernization of all border ports, for instance in Nogales the relocation of the rail way system from the urban center, this action will benefit the mobility of this community conforming a railway corridor Guaymas-Nogales. The project has a budget by the Federation for above the seven thousand million of Mexican pesos, about three hundred sixty million USD.
The modernization of Port of Guaymas contemplates developing a Nogales Fiscal Loop, expansion of Ciudad Obregon Airport, extension of Querobabi Check Point, modernization of Guaymas-Chihuahua highway, habilitate of dock patios, construction of a dock, containment sheeting, modernization of railroad loop, port accessibility, offices relocation, minerals warehouse, cross dock reinforcement, installation of sewer system in the city of Guaymas. All of implies to apply three thousand two hundred ninety seven million of Mexican Pesos as total investment.
In adittion, Humberto Vargas, vice-president of Union Pacific in Mexico, thanked the Exposition organized by Governor Durazo Montano in respect to the modernization project of Port of Guaymas, since all the development plans for the region were made known first hand, these plans will benefit the commercial interchange from both side of the border.
We are very interested being here, listening these opportunities, we have seen also how we have grown with these opportunities in the Port of Guaymas. We will be following up how of these new opportunities are progressing, he said.
These modernization works in consequence, will generate huge benefits for all economic-productive and services such as tourism and even more in this sector that the brand “Sea of Cortez, Aquarium of the World” will be promoted.
